Senior Investigator, Content - EL1

About the role 

We are seeking to fill multiple positions with the Content Division (Division). The Division engages with consumers, industry and government to build public confidence in communications and media services, and to shape and apply a regulatory framework in the communications and media markets. The Division's two branches (the Gambling and Mis/Disinformation Branch and the Content Safeguards Branch) are responsible for regulating Australia's gambling, misinformation, media control and diversity rules, and TV and radio content. 

As a Senior Investigations and Compliance Officer, you will contribute to regulatory investigations and compliance activities to ensure interactive gambling safeguards and content safeguards remain fit-for-purpose in a rapidly changing media and communications environment.

Our Ideal Candidate

An EL1 Senior Investigations and Compliance Officer will generally be required to undertake work that is very complex or sensitive and operate under broad direction. They exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role. Staff at this level exercise sound decisionmaking and judgement to produce high-level advice to achieve our compliance and enforcement objectives. 

The EL1 Senior Investigations and Compliance Officer will engage in complex problem-solving and issues management, and may coordinate and undertake detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic or operational outcomes for the agency. The role is also responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships within and outside the agency, and may manage one or more work teams.

Key responsibilities of the EL1 Senior Investigations and Compliance Officer will include:

  • Providing expert advice in relation to complex and high-risk investigations and compliance matters.
  • Leading investigations and the preparation of well-written and robust reports.
  • Pursuing enforcement and compliance with industry codes of practice, standards, the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 and/or the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
  • Undertaking compliance monitoring activities, including the development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Preparing complex and/or sensitive correspondence, reports, submissions, briefings (internal and external), proposal papers and notes.
  • Preparing high quality, succinct and clear advice to the Authority, Ministers and external stakeholders.
  • Analysing and interpreting data to inform our regulatory work.
  • Building and sustaining relationships with a network of key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Building capability in a team environment through coaching, providing performance feedback and encouraging skills, knowledge and career development.
  • Contributing to project management activities to support the effective and efficient management of Section, Branch, Division and Agency priorities.
