About the Faculty of Health Sciences:

The Faculty of Health Sciences comprises three schools: Allied Health, Behavioural and Health Sciences and Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine. There are currently approximately 14,000 students (EFTSL) and 530 (FTE) staff in the faculty under the disciplines: occupational therapy, speech pathology, social work, exercise science, exercise physiology, nutrition science, biomedical science, nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, physiotherapy, psychology and public health. The faculty is represented across seven ACU campuses. The faculty's current research priorities focus on Cardiovascular Disease and Metabolism, Health Services Research, Nutrition, Sports Performance and Rehabilitation, Psychology and Mental Health. An expanding portfolio of postgraduate courses is also available in coursework and research. Many postgraduate courses within the faculty have been developed in conjunction with industries in order to meet specific needs of the professions and industry. Some postgraduate units are offered in flexible learning mode by online study. All students have professional and clinical experience that is supervised by specially qualified practitioners. About the National School of Behavioural and Health Sciences:

The National School of Behavioural and Health Sciences is located on seven of the university's campuses: Brisbane, Blacktown, Strathfield, North Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Ballarat. Australian Catholic University (ACU) is seeking casual academic Biomedical Science Lecturers, Tutors and Demonstrators for multiple opportunities located at our Canberra, North Sydney and Strathfield campuses. These opportunities also involve delivering engaging lectures, preparing practical laboratory sessions, facilitating tutorials and workshops, developing teaching materials, assessing student performance and contributing to the development of biomedical science programs. Applicants should have relevant qualifications (Master's or PhD), teaching experience at the tertiary level, in-depth knowledge of biomedical science subjects, and strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Candidates must hold Australian work rights and demonstrate an understanding of ACU's mission and values. 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and informative lectures on various topics in biomedical science, ensuring alignment with the university's curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver practical laboratory sessions, guiding students through experiments and demonstrations while emphasizing safety and proper technique.
  • Facilitate interactive tutorials and workshops, encouraging student participation and fostering a deeper understanding of biomedical science concepts.
  • Develop and update teaching materials, including lecture slides, handouts, and assessments, to ensure content remains current and relevant to the field.
  • Provide support and guidance to students during office hours, addressing their questions and concerns regarding course material and assignments.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members (including interstate and cross-campus staff) to ensure consistency in teaching approaches and to share best practices in biomedical science education.
  • Assess student performance through various methods, such as grading assignments, exams, and practical work, providing timely and constructive feedback to support their learning and development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress, adhering to university policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of biomedical science programs by providing feedback and suggestions based on teaching experiences and student outcomes.

You will need to have:

  • Demonstrate relevant educational qualifications in biomedical science or a closely related field, such as a Master's or PhD degree, and any additional certifications or training.
  • Describe your experience in teaching biomedical science at the tertiary level, including lectures, tutorials, and laboratory demonstrations, highlighting your ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Provide evidence of your in-depth knowledge and understanding of biomedical science subjects, including current research and developments in the field.
  • Showcase your experience in developing and updating teaching materials, such as lecture slides, handouts, and assessments, to ensure alignment with learning outcomes and industry standards.
  • Demonstrate your commitment to a student-centered teaching approach, including strategies for fostering interactive learning, providing support and feedback, and accommodating diverse learning needs.
  • Highlight your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including your ability to explain complex concepts clearly, facilitate discussions, and build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate your strong organizational and time management skills, including your ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
  • Describe your commitment to ongoing professional development, including your participation in relevant conferences, workshops, or research activities to stay current with advancements in biomedical science and teaching methodologies.
