The APVMA’s Communications team is seeking applications for a Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Media Officer to contribute to join the team for a non-ongoing opportunity, ending 31 December 2026.

Reporting to the Assistant Director Media and Engagement, the Senior Stakeholder Engagement Officer role will include activities related to media liaison and media monitoring, issues management support and secretariat services for stakeholder engagement.

You will be analysing and mapping APVMA stakeholders and managing the setup of various consultation forums.  Your work will also include maintaining relationships with colleagues at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Minister’s Office, and other external stakeholders. 

As a Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Media Officer, you will work collaboratively within and beyond the Engagement and Communications team to anticipate and manage issues relevant to the APVMA, effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, and support the communication of complex scientific information and sound regulatory posture in a public policy context.

Our Ideal Candidate / Selection criteria

To be considered for these roles you will need the following essential criteria:

  1. Demonstrated experience in a similar role, which included analysing, strategising, reforming, and managing an organisation’s approach to stakeholder engagement. 
  2. Strong organisational and time management skills, including project management.
  3. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Ability to collaborate proficiently and work productively in an individual and team setting.
  5. Strategic thinking and ability to implement strategic plans in line with corporate objectives.

The following desirable criteria will also be assessed:

  • Experience in a science, agricultural, veterinary, or related field.
  • Experience with departmental and ministerial liaison.
  • Qualifications or background in science communications, science, media and communications or similar.

If an offer of non-ongoing employment is made, the successful applicant could be employed for an initial period of up to 12 months, which may be extended in accordance with subsection 333E (1) of the Fair Work Act 2009.  The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised, may also be used to fill future similar ongoing and non-ongoing  vacancies.
