Position summary

The Reform and Engagement team is seeking expressions of interest for the Assistant Director Stakeholder Engagement, responsible for delivering the APVMA’s engagement strategy and managing stakeholder interactions that support APVMA staff to work collaboratively in achieving the authority’s purposes. The role will commence in mid-late June and continue acting for a period of approximately 3 months.

The position provides strategic advice to APVMA leadership on stakeholder engagement and management, and is responsible for coordinating key stakeholder engagement activities including APVMA external forums and meetings, and coordination and responding to stakeholder surveys. An ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external networks is essential. 

Strong organisational skills and well-developed written and verbal communication are required. You will demonstrate the ability to plan, manage and organise your own workload. The ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the APVMA, its legislative framework and the external operating environment will enable the Assistant Director to exercise sound judgement in coordinating responses to potentially complex and sensitive issues.

Core functions

Reporting to the Director Reform and Engagement, and working closely with the APVMA's senior executive service, the Assistant Director will:

  • In support of the APVMA’s Corporate Plan, implement, maintain and develop the APVMA Engagement and Communications Strategy, including leading the APVMA’s strategic engagement with regulated entities, industry, community groups and other stakeholders;
  • Work with a third-party organisation to manage delivery and evaluation of the Stakeholder Survey;
  • Monitor stakeholder sentiment, manage expectations and proactively resolve issues;
  • Work with business units to develop action plans resulting from engagement initiatives that improve communication outcomes;
  • Capturing key stakeholder feedback and collaborating with internal sections to escalate and solve issues or concerns raised;
  • Prepare and manage workshops, roundtable and forums, including developing agendas, minutes and following up on action items;
  • Ensure quality documentation and procedures are maintained and updated; and
  • Provide support to the Director Reform and Engagement, and the Executive.

Our Ideal Candidate / Selection criteria

The successful applicant will have:

  1. Experience in developing and successfully implementing stakeholder engagement strategies and plans.
  2. Experience in managing stakeholder feedback processes and using feedback to drive business improvement.
  3. Demonstrated ability to engage with a range of stakeholders in a strategic way to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  4. Strong interpersonal and networking skills, highly articulate team player.
  5. Proven strategic stakeholder engagement and communications experience, including the ability to provide advice on policy, complex problem solving and issues management.
  6. Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and strategic directions when achieving project outcomes.
