POSITION SUMMARY

The APVMA is seeking to fill a vacant position in its Human Resources based in Armidale, NSW. This is a generalist role and will be expected to provide high-level support to the HR team. 

The successful candidate will work as part of a small HR team to deliver generalist HR and WHS services across the APVMA. This role provides support across a broad range of HR functions including end-to-end recruitment and selection, on-boarding and off-boarding, security assessments and general HR administration.   In collaboration with the Senior HR Officers, you will provide advice to management and staff in regards to the interpretation of APVMA’s industrial instruments, and assist with the delivery of policies and protocols.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position provides high quality HR advice and support to employees and management including:

  • Provide quality advice to employees and management on conditions of service matters, including researching, interpreting and applying a wide range of legislative provisions and APVMA policies and guidelines;
  • Assist in monitoring, triaging and responding to queries in the HR inbox and forwarding on more complex requests to other HR team members as required;
  • Providing advice on employment conditions under the APVMA Enterprise Agreement and employment legislation relevant to the Australian Public Service;
  • Support continuous improvement and best practice by contributing and assisting with projects across the HR team.
  • Highly developed ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and deliver quality outcomes;
  • Provide quality advice and support in regards to Work Health and Safety, along with best practice Health and Wellbeing practices in an office environment;
  • Assisting the HR team with annual work plan deliverables, projects and HR audits; and
  • Assist with the management of the HR reporting and workforce metrics functions, including high quality design and delivery of regular and ad hoc reports, and where appropriate, comments and/or analysis.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for these roles you will need:

Essential:

  • Graduate qualifications and 5 years generalist HR experience OR extensive experience and expertise in a diverse HR environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a range of HR issues (i.e. legislative requirements, recruitment and selection, Health and Safety, organisational and staff development and performance).
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across staff of all levels whilst being flexible, adaptable, having a positive outlook, and exercising diplomacy and confidentiality when required.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying industrial relations and HR principles, policies and procedures to work practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level written and oral advice to managers and staff.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyse information to identify problems and suggest appropriate solutions, including the identification of business improvements.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in human resources within the Australian Public Service.
  • Experience using the Aurion Human Resources Information System.
