POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Officer will be responsible for providing high quality payroll services in relation to areas including, though not limited to, application of taxation rates, leave, on-boarding, off-boarding workforce metrics reporting, stakeholder engagement, assisting with internal and external audit report requests and day-to-day payroll processing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

As the Payroll Officer you will:

  • Administer the payroll function, including payroll processing and associated activities, salary disbursement, overpayment recovery and leave management;
  • Deliver accurate and quality reports within appropriate timeframes that comply with relevant legislation;
  • Reconcile payments and administer fortnight, monthly and annual reports;
  • Assist the APVMA to meet its taxation, superannuation and other legislative obligations through processing, preparation and analysis of related reports, forms and other documentation as requested;
  • Drive the APVMA’s payroll system administration;
  • Undertake user acceptance testing of software upgrades and development of internal workflow forms;
  • Provide quality advice to employees and management on conditions of service matters, including researching, interpreting and applying a wide range of legislative provisions and APVMA policies and guidelines as they apply to payroll;
  • Under limited guidance, investigate and resolve complex and sensitive issues in relation to conditions of service; and
  • Assist with the management of the HR reporting and workforce metrics functions, including high quality design and delivery of regular and ad hoc reports, and where appropriate, comments and/or analysis.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for these roles you will need:

Essential:

  • At least five years payroll experience obtained through working in medium to large organisations.
  • Strong understanding of HR legislation and payroll practices (e.g. super, tax, mat leave, long service leave) and relevant enterprise agreements and industrial instruments.
  • Experience in the practical operation and management of a Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  • Experience in workforce data and data integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience in scoping, reviewing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proven communicator underpinned by strong written and verbal skills, plus an eye for detail which translates to high quality, accurate outputs.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across staff of all levels whilst being flexible, adaptable, having a positive outlook, and exercising diplomacy and confidentiality when required.

Desirable:

  • Aurion Administration and Aurion payroll experience.
  • Previous Australian Public Service payroll experience.
  • Previous software implementation and user acceptance testing experience.
