POSITION SUMMARY

The APVMA is seeking an experienced intelligence professional at the APS6 level in the Office of the Chief Regulatory Scientist. The position is accountable under broad direction for performing a range of activities relating to delivering scientific, strategic, and coordination measures across the APVMA. The successful candidate will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with the APVMA’s mission and business objectives. They will work independently with complex material, having the authority and discretion to independently evaluate information from diverse sources and explore innovative approaches to support longer-term business objectives. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To be a strong contender for the role you will be a resilient, process driven person with an ability to:

• Lead the enhancement of the APVMA’s intelligence capability;

• Collect, collate and conduct high-level analysis of information identifying trends, convergences and emerging issues to create an intelligence product which supports APVMA decision makers. This includes undertaking field work, compliance and enforcement activities;

• Manage large quantities of disparate data, utilise intelligence tradecraft to create and disseminate intelligence product to meet the tactical, operational and strategic needs of the APVMA;

• Contribute to complex investigations within a multidisciplinary team in accordance with APVMA and Australian Government policies and standards and the requirements of administered legislation;

• Assist in the management of the Section, including staff development, training and support; and

• Contribute to other activities being performed by the section including compliance and investigations activity.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for these roles you will need: 

Essential:

• Appropriate qualifications in Intelligence Analysis and experience with one or more of the following; agricultural, biological, chemical, veterinary science, and/or legal, finance, accounting or equivalent experience in investigations;

• Previous experience liaising with internal and external professionals to resolve and complete assessments, make referrals and ensure positive outcomes;

• Prior experience preparing high quality written materials, such as complex briefing to senior management, and intelligence packages to a broad range of audiences;

• Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and to plan, organise and prioritise a demanding workload, and to communicate priorities within the team;

• Proven ability to work with limited supervision to research, investigate and analyse complex issues and engage in problem-solving;

• Previous experience establishing and implementing new services and/or systems within a workplace which enhances organisational performance; and

• Willingness to abide by the APS Values, Code of Conduct and Employment Principles, and a demonstrated commitment to applying the principles and practices of WHS, equity and diversity in the workplace.

Desirable:

• Some knowledge of legal processes, preparing intelligence documents and building networks;

• Experience assisting peers and lower classification levels; and

• Relevant experience with Australian agricultural practices, investigations, project management, or in a regulatory environment will be highly regarded.
