POSITION SUMMARY

Under limited direction and working collaboratively with APVMA staff and management, the Accountant will primarily be responsible for the APVMA's Cost Recovery Framework and reporting. The Accountant will also be required to assist in the management and financial accounting functions.

The Accountant will:

• Manage the Agency’s Cost Recovery Framework, including compliance, renewal and reporting. 

• Assist with APVMA’s budget in consultation with APVMA staff and management, including the mid-year budget review, annual operating budget and portfolio budget statements;

• Provide input into the annual financial statements in accordance with the Australian Accounting Standards, PGPA Act and the Department of Finance Reporting Guidelines;

• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports and acquittals;

• Assist in managing the taxation obligations of the APVMA;

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To be a strong contender for the role you will be a resilient, process driven person with:

• Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of APS and APVMA systems and processes (or ability to quickly acquire)

• Experience with preparing budgets and monthly reporting

• Experience preparing financial reports for a Government Agency or Public Company

• Demonstrated application of the Australian Accounting Standards.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

• Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Accounting/Finance;

• Demonstrated experience preparing formal statutory financial reports and corporate budgets;

• Demonstrated experience in identifying issues and working to resolve them;

• Confidently presents messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner. Demonstrate high-level communication skills along with well-developed interpersonal skills to ensure client focused outcomes and maintain internal and external networks and relationships

• Ability to work with minimal supervision including the ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines;

• Willingness to abide by the APS Values, Code of Conduct and Employment Principles, and a demonstrated commitment to applying the principles and practices of WHS, equity and diversity in the workplace.

Desirable:

• Relevant work experience in the APS; and 

• Previous experience working with Technology One and Aurion
