The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) is the Australian Government's primary authority on radiation protection and nuclear safety. Our purpose is to protect the Australian people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation, through understanding risks, best practice regulation, research, policy, services, partnerships and engaging with the community.

Section overview

The Technical and Scientific Support team is responsible for coordinating and managing ARPANSA’s work program for delivery of independent technical and scientific services to a range of customers including the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR) and ARPANSA’s Regulatory Services Branch. This includes providing governance oversight of technical and scientific support services, including consistency of service, quality of service, ensuring the agency is meeting obligations under a range of agreements. The team also provides strategic advice to the CEO and Executive Group concerning ARPANSA’s regulatory support services and engages across government including liaison with the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator, the Australian Submarine Agency, state and territory radiation safety regulators and other Australian Government entities. 

Primary purpose of the role

ARPANSA provides dedicated Technical and Scientific Services (TSS) to deliver independent regulatory, technical and scientific support to the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR) and ARPANSA’s Regulatory Service Branch (RSB). This service is provided under a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with specific performance indicators. Robust governance systems are essential to ensure resilient and effective service delivery. 

In this role you will coordinate and lead administrative and governance support across the SLA lifecycle, assist with process implementation, track task progress, and manage projects and periodic reporting. The role will also coordinate across ARPANSA to marshal expertise to support discrete packages of work under the TSS framework.
