Overview of the Team

The Secretariat and Scheme Support Services (SaSSS) team plays a vital role in supporting the strategic and operational functions of both the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) and the Seafarers’ Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Authority (Seacare Authority). This team delivers high-quality administrative and governance support, engages with prospective self-insurance scheme participants, assesses licence applications and extensions, and leads assurance reviews of licensee management systems.

Within SaSSS, the Secretariat team is specifically responsible for ensuring the efficient, timely and accurate delivery of support that enables the the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) and the Seafarers’ Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Authority (Seacare Authority) to meet their legislative obligations under their respective Acts. These bodies convene formally on a quarterly basis, with additional meetings, sub-committees and working groups held as required to address emerging priorities and maintain regulatory oversight.

Overview of the Role

The Secretariat Office is a key member of the Secretariat team within the broader Secretariat and Scheme Support Services (SaSSS) function. This dynamic and multifaceted role is central to the delivery of high-quality governance and administrative support to the SRCC and the Seacare Authority. It contributes directly to Comcare’s legislative responsibilities by coordinating meeting logistics, preparing governance documentation, and supporting assurance and licensing activities. The position plays an important part in enabling both the SRCC and Seacare Authority to meet their obligations and maintain high standards of regulatory oversight.

Operating in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, the Secretariat Officer engages with a wide range of internal stakeholders across policy, legal, and operational teams, as well as external stakeholders. The role requires strong communication and organisational skills, and contributes to the broader objectives of the organisation by ensuring timely, accurate and professional support that underpins decision-making and strategic outcomes.

Experience

  • Experence in secretariat or governance-focused role will be well regarded.

Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment

  1. Australian citizenship.
  2. Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
  3. Employee Health Declaration.
  4. Six months probationary period for new engagements.
