Overview of the Team

The Scheme Management Group contributes to Comcare’s purpose to promote and enable safe and healthy work through excellence in scheme design and management. We are insight driven and work with scheme participants to achieve sustainable and better practice national schemes. 

Comcare has an ambitious program for the governance, organisation, presentation analysis and utilisation of our data capability and assets. The Office of the Chief Data and Analytics Officer (OCDAO) is the focal point that brings together business groups, IT, legal and other corporate functions to craft and implement Comcare’s enterprise data strategy and associated data initiatives. 

Overview of the Role

The Assistant Director, Data Governance will establish and manage Comcare’s Data Governance framework across Comcare’s data domains. The Assistant Director’s role is to oversee and lead the data governance capability in a way that safeguard’s Comcare’s data in line with legislative requirements and ethical principles, while also enabling data driven decisions. 

The Assistant Director is responsible for embedding data governance roles and responsibilities and nurturing capability and a proactive culture of good practice across the Data Stewardship Network. This will be done through embedding fit-for-purpose data governance practices in various systems and business processes. It is critical that the Assistant Director facilitates a sound balance between compliance and enablement, ensuring policies and procedures mitigate risks without unnecessarily restricting operational efficiency. 

The Assistant Director will continually strengthen Comcare’s data governance framework to adapt to the evolving operating and external environment, including legislative changes. Developing and maintaining a comprehensive suite of data governance policies, procedures and processes to support enterprise data governance practices. The Assistant Director is also responsible for evaluating the outcomes of data governance including how it enables strategic priorities. 

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Experience designing and implementing a data governance framework 
  • Practical experience as a developer or user of data products  

Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment

  1. Australian citizenship
  2. Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check)
  3. Employee Health Declaration
  4. Six months probationary period for new engagements
