Overview of the Team
The Data Engineer will sit within the Office of the Chief Data and Analytics Officer (OCDAO) team which is responsible for ensuring that Comcare takes a mature and sophisticated approach to the management and use of data and works across Comcare to:
- Improve enterprise data governance.
- Foster a data driven organisational culture.
- Deliver better insights through new platforms and capability uplift.
- Ensure data architecture and data models cater for versatile reporting and analytics needs.
- Delineate impacts within our data environment to facilitate a better understanding and implementation of effective controls.
- Create a framework that helps people understand their responsibilities when it comes to data.
- Embed continuous improvement in process and quality of data captures.
- Ensure consistency in the description of common data terms.
- Ensure data is leveraged effectively to solve business problems.
- Enable data capability gaps to be identified and addressed across Comcare so that Groups can be more self-sufficient in working with data.

Overview of the Role
The Data Engineer plays a key role in the operationalisation of the data platform to business areas. The Data Engineer will work closely with ICT Engineers, data modellers, data analysts and business areas to develop reusable data patterns in a cloud-based Microsoft Azure environment, for use in reporting, analysis and data science.
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory:
- Recent and relevant experience (ideally, 2 years +) in a data engineering role
Desirable:
- Experience working within an Azure cloud data environment
- Experience developing data pipelines for data visualisation / analysis tools such as Microsoft Power BI
Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment
- Australian citizenship.
- Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
- Employee Health Declaration.
- Six months probationary period for new engagements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
