Overview of the Team
The Data Architecture and Engineering team is part of the Office of the Chief Data & Analytics Officer (OCDAO) in Scheme Management Group and is responsible for ensuring that Comcare takes a mature and sophisticated approach to the management and use of data. To achieve that, the team works across Comcare to:
- Improve enterprise data governance.
- Foster a data driven organisational culture.
- Deliver better insights through new platforms and capability uplift.
- Ensure data architecture and data models cater for versatile reporting and analytics needs.
- Delineate impacts within our data environment to facilitate a better understanding and implementation of effective controls.
- Create a framework that helps people understand their responsibilities when it comes to data.
- Embed continuous improvement in process and quality of data captures.
- Ensure consistency in the description of common data terms.
- Ensure data is leveraged effectively to solve business problems.
- Enable data capability gaps to be identified and addressed across Comcare so that Groups can be more self-sufficient in working with data.

Overview of the Roles
Assistant Director, Data Engineering
The Assistant Director, Data Engineering is a leader who is responsible for overseeing the design, development and implementation of Comcare’s data architecture and modelling strategies. This includes defining data standards, policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completness and reliability of Comcare's data assets.
The Assistant Director will work closely with the other members of the OCDAO team, ICT Engineers and business areas to maintain and develop reusable data solutions in a cloud-based Microsoft Azure environment. The Data Engineer brings a combination of strong technical and communication skills to work effectively across various technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory:
Experience in a technical data leadership role including in each of the following:
- A wide range of cloud data technologies and tools including an in-depth understanding of database structure principles.
- Design and architecting of data solutions across hybrid (cloud, on premise) data platforms.
- Data modelling techniques, including relational and dimensional modelling.
- Experience in the following tools and technologies: Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Databricks, Power BI, SQL, R or Python.
- Developing entity relationship modelling reference diagrams.
- Overseeing enterprise data and analytics initiatives.
Desirable:
- Sound understanding of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act) and Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).
- Specialist understanding of emerging technologies.
Assistant Director, Data Architecture and Modelling
The Assistant Director, Data Architecture and Modelling is a leader who is responsible for overseeing the design, development and implementation of Comcare’s data architecture and modelling strategies. This includes defining data standards, policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness and reliability of Comcare’s data assets.
The Assistant Director works closely with business stakeholders to identify data requirements, develop data models and implement data management solutions that support Comcare’s analytical goals and objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory:
Experience in a technical data leadership role including in each of the following:
