Overview of the Team

As part of the Claims Management Group, Claims Operations is a large, multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality claims management services. The claims team is led by an Assistant Director and made up of claims managers, senior claims managers, and employer account managers, with support from injury managers.

The team collaborates to achieve positive health and return to work outcomes for employees and employers. Each Claims Operations team is assigned Australian Public Service portfolios, agencies or specialised claims and is accountable for the management of claims within their portfolio; relationship management for the agencies within that portfolio and achieving positive claim outcomes for that portfolio.

Overview of the Role

The Assistant Director, Claims Operations leads a team responsible for the management of workers’ compensation claims, consisting of Senior Claims Managers, Claims Managers, Claims Support Officers and Claims Administration Officers. Using a risk-based approach, this role will allocate claims management work across the team and drive high performing claims management.

The Assistant Director, Claims Operations will also manage high risk, complex claims and provide oversight for all other claims managed by team members. Using high level stakeholder management skills, this role collaborates with employees, employers and other relevant stakeholders towards a positive outcome. The Assistant Director, Claims Operations is also responsible to assist in the coaching and capability development of the staff reporting to them. The Assistant Director, Claims Operations reports to the Director, Claims Operations and may manage team members across multiple sites.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as law, health, compensation, business or management.
  • Experience in an insurance or injury compensation environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a public sector context.

Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment

  1. Australian citizenship.
  2. Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
  3. Employee Health Declaration.
  4. Six months probationary period for new engagements.
  5. Ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance.
  6. Specific Conditions:
    • Comcare supports flexible working arrangement (FWA) however, different types of FWA are suitable for different types of roles to meet operational requirements and minimise Work Health and Safety risks.
    • Incumbents in these roles may be required to participate in routine programs to support mental wellbeing, for example wellbeing checks or group supervision. Training and supports are provided for employees to manage client engagements and the expectations of the role.
