Overview of the Team and role
The Reconsiderations and Appeals team is responsible for the statutory reconsideration of Comcare claims decisions and management of Comcare’s response to Administrative Appeals Tribunal applications and court appeals. The team works closely with the Senior Director Claims, the Claims Operations teams and Comcare’s Legal Group to achieve positive outcomes for employees and employers.
The Assistant Director, Reconsiderations leads the team responsible for the statutory reconsideration of Comcare claims decisions. When an employee requests reconsideration of a decision, the team conduct an independent, merits review working with the employee, employer and across Claims Management Group to reconsider the original decision. The role leads the implementation of lessons learned and collaborates to improve claims management. This role will be a decision maker for high risk, complex reconsideration requests. The Assistant Director, Reconsiderations reports to the Director, Reconsiderations and Appeals and may manage team members across multiple sites.
Qualifications/Experience
Highly Desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in law.
- Experience in an insurance or injury compensation environment.
Desirable:
- Experience working in a public sector context.
Security Clearance
Ability to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance. In some cases, a higher level may be required.
