Overview of the team and role

The Legal Practice Management Team provides practice management services and supports the Legal Group in the delivery of quality legal services with a focus on continuous improvement.  

The team develops and implements governance frameworks, monitors risk, and coordinates input to reports and briefs to support Comcare in meeting its internal and external reporting obligations. 

The team are responsible for engaging external Legal Service Providers (LSP), on behalf of Comcare and supports the Director Legal Practice Management to allocate advice, Tribunal and Court matters and monitor LSP performance. 

The Assistant Director, Legal Practice Managment supports the Director, Legal Practice Management in leading the team to provide client-focused practice management services. The Assistant Director will also work closely with the Director to build capability both within the Legal Group and continuous improvement for our Comcare client areas, focusing on identifying training opportunities and lessons learned.

The Assistant Director will resolve problems and manage risk effectively and manage their own workload in a manner consistent with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal Comcare policies and procedures.

Providing strong leadership and management, the Assistant Director will achieve organisational objectives through planning and participating, contributing and collaborating across Comcare and with external stakeholders. 

The Assistant Director will:

  • Lead capability development and continuous improvement within the Legal Group.
  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement and training in collaboration with our internal clients and manage change.
  • Supervise, train and support other team members.
  • Develop, maintain and implement legal frameworks and strategies.
  • Prepare briefs, committee papers and complex correspondence under limited direction. 
  • Nurture relationships with all internal and external stakeholders. 

Desirable Experience

Demonstrated experience working in a legal environment.
