The position is within the Marine and Antarctic Geoscience Section (MAG) of the Oceans, Reefs, Coasts and the Antarctic Branch (ORCA). Geoscience Australia’s Antarctic Geoscience program supports the Australian Government’s commitment to the Antarctic Treaty System, associated protocols and relevant domestic legislation. The program delivers geoscience information and advice to Government on the Australian Antarctic Territory and the collection, interpretation and management of geoscience datasets and products that support that advice.

The role contributes to multidisciplinary Antarctic research initiatives and requires someone who can apply geoscience (e.g. geology/geomorphology) knowledge and skills to improve our understanding of onshore ice-free areas within Australian Antarctic Territory. The role requires working closely with the Australian Antarctic Division (Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water) in the development of science products to inform environmental management decisions and support Australia’s national interests in Antarctica.
