The Head of Mathematics – Middle School is a key leadership role responsible for leading and enhancing Mathematics education across Years 5–8. Based at one of Haileybury’s four campuses, the position supports a culture of academic excellence, wellbeing and inclusion, aligned with Haileybury’s Magenta Principles.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced educational leader to provide strategic and operational leadership within the Mathematics faculty, drive outstanding teaching and learning outcomes, and contribute to the ongoing success of the Middle School program. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a commitment to student wellbeing and a passion for developing both staff and students.
All Heads of Department at Haileybury maintain a classroom-based teaching load. Applicants should refer to the Classroom Teacher Position Description in conjunction with this role. In addition to a classroom teacher salary, the role attracts a generous financial allowance and dedicated time allocation to support the successful fulfilment of leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for Mathematics education across Years 5–8, ensuring alignment with Haileybury’s vision, values and educational priorities.
- Lead the ongoing development, implementation and review of a contemporary, knowledge-rich Mathematics curriculum that promotes excellence and supports student growth.
- Drive high-quality teaching and learning practices through evidence-informed pedagogy, curriculum leadership and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing faculty culture that values professional learning, innovation, consistency and accountability.
- Build staff capability through leadership, coaching, mentoring and the delivery of targeted professional development programs.
- Use student achievement and assessment data to inform strategic planning, improve educational outcomes and identify opportunities for growth.
- Ensure consistency and excellence in curriculum delivery, assessment, moderation and reporting practices across all campuses.
