The Head of Middle School (Girls) is an important leadership position at Haileybury City.  Leading the Girls Middle School of Years 5-8 in a vertical campus in the centre of Melbourne is an exciting role. This could be a great opportunity for an experienced and passionate leader to foster a culture of excellence, wellbeing and inclusion, grounded in Haileybury’s Magenta Principles. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong educational leadership, sound pastoral care, and a commitment to girls’ education in the Middle Years.

All Heads of School at Haileybury maintain a classroom-based teaching load. Applicants should refer to the Classroom Teacher Position Description in conjunction with this role.

 

The role

The primary responsibility of the The Head of Middle School (Girls) is to lead the staff and students of this part of the school with purpose and passion, and to promote learning within the broader school community.  

The Head of School is an integral part of the Campus Executive Team and will be expected to lead staff at a campus level.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead a positive and inclusive culture that fosters a strong sense of community, where every student and staff member feels valued, connected, and empowered to achieve their very best
  • Lead best practice in teaching, learning and pastoral care in collaboration with the other Heads of School and relevant leaders in Teaching and Learning and Wellbeing teams 
  • Lead, manage and support the staff team, ensuring they are highly professional, motivated, collaborative and effective 
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment by identifying and mitigating risks. Upholding child safety policies and fostering student wellbeing through collaboration, respect and an evidence-based best practice approach
  • Advocate for a culture of learning and empower staff to expect excellence in our classrooms and beyond 

 

About you

  • Brilliant pedagogy and explicit instructions: Implement evidenced based practiced that actively engage students in their learning process

  • Strong, professional and kind relationships: Foster a safe, supportive and respectful classroom environment where students feel valued, respected and understood
  • Collaborative and ambitious striving: Encourage collaboration amongst students and team members so we can create perseverance, critical thinking and creativity
  • Modelling curiosity and commitment to deep learning: Demonstrate a passion for learning and inquiry-based thinking. Encourage students to ask questions, explore topics independently, and pursue their interests beyond the classroom
  • Extending student’s understanding through teacher expertise: Continuously develop your own expertise throughout the use of data, ongoing professional development and collaboration with colleagues
