The Opportunity

Are you a safety professional who is passionate about driving positive change? We’re seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to play a key role in promoting best-practice safety across Council operations.  Reporting to the Coordinator Safety, you will influence safe work practices, ensure compliance with legislation and standards, and provide expert guidance across all aspects of workplace health and safety.

What You Will Do

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve Council’s Safety Management System, ensuring policies and procedures support a strong safety culture. 
  • Provide specialist advice, training, and support in risk management, compliance, incident investigation, and safety improvement initiatives. 
  • Conduct regular WHS audits and site inspections, ensuring risk identification, assessment, and control measures are in place. 
  • Lead and assist in investigating incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes, and recommending preventative actions. 
  • Act as a trusted safety partner, collaborating with employees, contractors, and stakeholders to drive positive safety outcomes.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated safety professional who:

  • Holds a Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety or Diploma of Work Health and Safety and/or equivalent experience working in a dedicated work health and safety role.
  • Has significant experience in workplace safety within large or complex organisations.
  • Possesses strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Has demonstrated expertise in leading safety investigations and implementing effective risk controls.
  • Holds a current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
