Coordinator Built Environment
Permanent Full-time - (QLGIA Stream A - Level 7)
Location: Lagoon Place, Yeppoon | Reports to: Manager Planning & Development
The Role
Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator Built Environment to lead a diverse regulatory team delivering essential services across plumbing and drainage, development compliance, and building certification.

What You Will Do
- Lead and oversee the Built Environment team to deliver high-quality regulatory services across compliance, certification, and plumbing and drainage.
- Drive a proactive, education-focused approach to compliance that balances enforcement with community engagement.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and service models aligned with legislation and Council priorities.
- Provide expert advice and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage complex compliance matters, including preparation for legal proceedings and representing Council where required.
- Lead financial and resource management, including budgeting and service delivery planning.
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and efficient service delivery across the team.
What You Will Bring
You are an experienced leader with strong regulatory, governance, and stakeholder engagement capability.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Proven experience leading teams in a regulatory, compliance, or built environment setting.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation (Planning, Building, Plumbing & Drainage, Local Government frameworks).
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex compliance matters, including investigations and legal processes.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong financial, planning and resource management capability.
- A commitment to delivering customer-focused, ethical, and transparent services.
Mandatory requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., regulatory services, environmental health, building, plumbing or related discipline) or significant equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a complex environment.
- Experience working within legislative and regulatory frameworks.
- Current Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence.
