Disaster Management Officer (2955)

Permanent Full Time | QLGIA (Stream A) Level 5

Location: Livingstone Shire Council – The Hub, James Street | Reports to: Coordinator Disaster Management and Community Resilience

As a Disaster Management Officer, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding and strengthening the Livingstone Shire community. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to work that truly matters - helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters and emergencies.

Working within Council’s Disaster Management and Community Resilience team, you’ll be at the centre of coordinating initiatives that build long-term resilience. From leading preparedness activities and supporting emergency response operations, to driving recovery efforts and continuous improvement, your work will have a direct and lasting impact across the region.

What you will be doing:

You are a capable and motivated disaster management professional with the experience and mindset to make a real impact. You bring:

  • Strong knowledge of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements, legislation and emergency management principles;
  • Experience in disaster planning, coordination and operational response environments;
  • Sound leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence across agencies and the community;
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to perform under pressure in time-critical situations; and
  • Professional judgement, resilience and a strong commitment to ethical practice and community outcomes

To succeed in this role, you will also have:

  • An Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management) and/or substantial relevant experience in a similar role;
  • A demonstrated understanding of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements and legislation;
  • A current C Class driver licence; and
  • Availability to work outside normal hours during disasters, emergencies and community engagement activities

  • Salary $98,077 to $102,101 per annum (QLGIA Stream A Level 5.1 to 5.3), depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
