Purchasing Officer (1821)

Location:  Yeppoon | Reports to Team Leader Purchasing

The Role

The Purchasing Officer provides efficient, compliant purchasing support across Council by managing procurement activities, maintaining supplier relationships and ensuring high quality service to internal and external stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

You will deliver high-quality purchasing support that enables value for money, operational efficiency and transparent procurement practices.  You will contribute to a positive customer experience, support category strategies and uphold ethical standards in all purchasing activities.

You will:

  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships, addressing supplier issues and supporting high quality service delivery. 
  • Provide administrative and system support across all purchasing activities, including quotations, requisitions, purchase orders and receipting 
  • Ensure fair, transparent, and compliant procurement processes, promoting equitable access for suppliers and supporting competitive local business participation. 
  • Collaborate with the Procurement team to support contract reviews and contribute to consistent, standardised procurement practices across Council.

What you will bring:

  • Strong knowledge of procurement governance and purchasing policy.
  • Well developed communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. 
  • Attention to detail and solid administrative capability, including accuracy in quoting, requisitions, purchase orders and recordkeeping. 
  • Effective time management, planning and organisational skills, supporting consistent and timely service delivery. 

Mandatory Requirements to be successful in this position:

  • Qualifications in purchasing and procurement and/or work experience relevant to the position responsibilities; and
  • Possess and maintain a current motor vehicle driver licence.
