The Role

Join our Communities and Environment portfolio as a Building Certifier and play a key role in delivering Council’s commercial building certification services. This position ensures compliance with relevant legislation and building codes while fostering strong relationships with the community and internal stakeholders and interested candidates will have demonstrated customer services experience supported with effective written and verbal skills.

Candidates will have strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code of Australia, and relevant standards and the ability to interpret plans and drawings with excellent attention to detail. Key skills requirement for this role is proven time management, organisational ability to meet statutory deadlines.  

What you’ll be doing:

  • Communicating with and overseeing contractors and internal teams to deliver exceptional maintenance and operational outcomes.
  • Assess and determine development applications for building works and concurrence agency assessments under the Queensland Development Code.
  • Administer requirements of the Building Act and associated regulations, including compliance reviews.
  • Conduct inspections across all building classes and swimming pool safety during construction stages, issuing certificates and preparing related documentation.
  • Provide expert technical advice on building matters to the public, Council, and internal teams.
  • Represent Council as an expert witness in Building/Development Tribunals when required.
  • Contribute to policy updates, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold Council’s values and behaviours.

Mandatory Requirements for the role:

  • Diploma of Project Management or Mechanical/Electrical Trade and/or substantial experience and demonstrated knowledge of contract and project management delivery of  aquatic facility operations and building and maintenance management.
  • Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification or Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying.
  • Accreditation as a Level Two Building Certifier (all classes up to three storeys and 2,000m²).
  • Swimming Pool Safety Inspector Licence and Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
  • Current “C” Class driver’s licence.
