Internal Communications Officer - Permanent Full-Time | QLGIA (Stream A) Level 5

Location: Yeppoon | Reports to: Strategic Communications Lead Advisor

What You Will Be Doing

As our Internal Communications Officer, you will be the voice behind the scenes—connecting our people to our purpose. You will:

  • Craft engaging content across newsletters, bulletins, videos, and digital platforms that keeps staff in the loop and aligned with Council’s mission.
  • Manage our intranet (SharePoint) as the go-to hub for internal news, updates, and resources.
  • Use AI-powered tools to create high-quality, inclusive, and visually engaging content.
  • Coordinate internal events and initiatives that build culture—from depot visits to recognition programs and leadership sessions.
  • Support internal branding and design standards, ensuring everything we share reflects who we are.
  • Be a trusted partner to leaders, helping them communicate with clarity, authenticity, and impact.

What You Will Bring

You are a natural communicator who knows how to make messages land. You are digitally fluent, creatively curious, and passionate about building culture through communication.

Here is what we are looking for:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, PR, Marketing, Journalism, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in internal communications, ideally in a complex or public sector environment.
  • Confidence using digital and AI-assisted tools to create content that’s clear, compelling, and on-brand.
  • Experience managing intranet platforms (especially SharePoint) and coordinating staff engagement activities.
  • A current “C” Class Driver’s Licence, you’ll be out and about across Council sites.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in local government or community-focused organisations.
  • Advanced design or video editing skills (Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
  • A knack for using AI to streamline workflows and enhance creativity.
