  • This is a permanent full-time opportunity (35 hours per week) based in one of our beautiful Melbourne Libraries.
  • $99,022 - $111,547 (dependant on skills & experience) + 11.5% Superannuation

About the Role

Are you passionate about promoting and celebrating Aboriginal culture and knowledge within your community? Join our team as the Library Aboriginal Engagement Lead, where you will play a pivotal role in liaising with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owners in alignment with our protocols. Partnering with the Library Leadership Team, you will develop and implement strategies to integrate Aboriginal culture and values into our library services. Your expertise will guide the creation of inclusive programs and events that honour and highlight Aboriginal heritage, ensuring our offerings are both meaningful and respectful.

In this dynamic role, you will identify operational challenges and recommend effective mitigation strategies to ensure smooth library operations. Your insights will support local heritage initiatives and inform collection development, enriching our library’s resources with authentic Aboriginal perspectives. By actively promoting our library services to Aboriginal communities and organisations, you will help foster strong, collaborative relationships and ensure our library is a welcoming and inclusive space for all.

What you will bring to the role

  • Deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and knowledge.
  • Experience in cultural programming.
  • Connections with Victorian Aboriginal communities.
  • Ability to introduce Aboriginal culture and practice into libraries.
  • Ability to evaluate and advice on cultural appropriateness of services, projects, programs, and events.
  • Ability to promote the value of CoM Library services and programs to Aboriginal communities.
