APTC has country offices in Fiji, Vanuatu, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste and representatives in Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu. The Country Offices are supported by a range of services provided from a regional head office located in Suva, Fiji.

Your Opportunity
As the ICT Officer, you will be responsibile for providing central support of the APTC Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure and software including servers, networks, email, phone and all other communication equipment and devices within Samoa and APTC regional locations. The ICT Officer will actively participate in the maintenance of the security and backups of APTC electronic data in Samoa campus. The ICT Officer is responsible to assist with the implementation of the APTC ICT projects within Samoa to build and strengthen APTC’s reputation as a centre for training excellence and collaboration. Working in collaboration with the RHO ICT Team, the ICT Officer has responsibility for providing quality control for APTC ICT within APTC locations.
The ICT Officer will report directly to Manager ICT based in the Regional Head Office (RHO) in Suva.
The position will be based at Apia, Samoa and may involve travel to other APTC locations.
The Total Remuneration Package (TRP) for this role is WST37,872.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a high level of customer service, both internally and externally.
- Conduct regular preventative and corrective maintenance of all ICT infrastructure including servers, network hardware, phone and all other communication equipment.
- Assist the Manager ICT to ensure ICT services meet staff requirements and work with the local ICT staff or service providers to improve services and correct issues as they arise.
- Assist the RHO ICT Team with the management of backups including implementing required rotation cycles, monitoring, rectifying and verifying integrity of the routine backups of APTC.
- Monitor firewalls, other security applications to ensure that SPAM, other undesirable information, and network intrusions are adequately blocked.
- Identify and mitigate any critical risks to the business to ensure that Data Integrity is not adversely affected.
- Working with other Senior Systems and Networks Engineers to co-share and manage the Helpdesk Management System which includes, ticket assignment, escalations, compliance to service level agreements and reporting.
- Update and Maintain technical documentation to ensure information is accurate and accessible.
- Coordinate the population of the ICT resource library to ensure efficient and effective support is provided to end users.
- Monitor and maintain Patch Management Application for all APTC ICT equipment. Ensure all core systems including end user devices are fully patched and stored securely.
- Conduct regular updates on all student devices across all APTC campus location in Samoa campus.
- Provide end user support for APTC campuses that have minimal ICT presence including liaison with ICT staff/contractors for required services.
- Ensure that all ICT equipment available are tracked using the appropriate asset management application.
- Undertake regular research initiatives (testing and evaluating) to support recommendations for new technology, hardware, software and network systems to ensure effective and up to date operation of ICT systems for the APTC.
- Support ICT procurement, preparing specifications for requirements, obtaining quotations, performing detailed analysis and submitting recommendations for approval.
- Where required, provide local end user support to ensure customers needs are met.
- Assist the ICT team with new product (hardware/software) testing and implementation as required.
- Liaise regularly with Manager ICT and prepare reports as required.
- Participate in relevant working groups, as required.
- Update and monitor Mobile Device management platform to ensure all devices are in compliance with cyber security standards.
- As an ICT staff member, your role will include actively assisting and supporting the implementation of cyber security standards and policies within APTC. This will involve adhering to established guidelines, procedures, and best practices related to cyber security, as well as promoting a culture of security awareness among your team and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for following and promoting established security protocols, identifying and reporting any security risks or incidents, and collaborating with the ICT Team to implement appropriate controls and measures. Your commitment to upholding and promoting our cyber security standards and policies will be critical in safeguarding our APTC’s sensitive information and protecting against potential cyber threats.
- Complete regular audit as and when advised by Manager ICT.
- Support ICT projects identified by Manager ICT.
How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
- A minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar ICT role with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a small and dedicated team.
- Experience working with VMware and Microsoft Active Directory; Veeam backup and replication, ESET, Shadow protect, Deep Freeze and an understanding of Fortinet and Meraki technologies.
- Experience providing Level 1 ICT support in an organisation.
- Experience providing ICT support in remote locations.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement in the application of existing policies and procedures.
Mandatory requirements:
- Preferably diploma level qualification or higher in related field Or post-secondary qualification and demonstrated experience in related field.
- Demonstrated high level of customer service skills with experience in solving problems associated with highly complex systems and preparedness to work after hours as and when required.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to relate effectively, collaboratively and ethically to staff, students and other stakeholders (including the ability to liaise with industry and partner institutions).
Highly desirable requirements:
- Professional Microsoft certification.
- Experience working on an aid-funded project, preferably Australian Government.
