About TAFE Queensland

TAFE Queensland is proud to be the largest and most experienced Vocational Education and Training (VET) provider in the State. For more than 140 years, TAFE Queensland has delivered practical and industry-relevant training to provide students with the skills and experience they need to build lifelong careers. Our award-winning training is delivered on campus, online, and in the workplace to give people the skills they need to enrich their communities, support their industries, and strengthen their local economies.

By working at TAFE Queensland, you can be part of a highly experienced workforce that is closely connected with their industries and dedicated to delivering best practices and innovative training.

Your Opportunity

This role offers experienced mariners the opportunity to step ashore without stepping away from the industry. As a Maritime Teacher, you’ll pass on the knowledge, judgement, and seamanship you’ve built at sea—shaping the skills and mindset of the next generation of mariners who will operate, navigate, and protect vessels in real-world conditions.

You’ll play a vital role in delivering Qualified Marine Engineers, who demonstrate skills and knowledge in Marine Mechanical, Propulsion Systems, Electrical, Electronic and Control Engineering. With knowledge of Regulatory Compliance, Leadership and Emergency Response skills, students will be able to take the next step in their Marine career. Every day brings the chance to draw on your own experiences—what worked, what didn’t, and what really matters when it counts.

Turn your experience into impact. The lessons you’ve learned under pressure will directly influence how future mariners operate safely and professionally so if you want to ensure the next generation does it right—you’ll feel at home here.

This is your chance to transform experience into education, and sea time into something that lasts.

Teach what truly matters

From knowledge of all things mechanical and electrical to procedures and emergency response, you’ll teach practical, real-world skills - grounded in lived experience, not just textbooks.

A respected professional pathway ashore

Teaching offers stability, professional growth, and the chance to remain deeply connected to the maritime industry—without long rotations away from home.

Be a mentor, not just an instructor

Students aren’t just learning how to pass an assessment—they’re learning how to become mariners. You’ll be a role model for professionalism, situational awareness, and safety culture.
