Security and Privacy Statement

The Rural City of Wangaratta is committed to respecting the privacy of personal information through the recruitment process.  We comply with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 in the collection, use, storage, management, provision of access and disposal of information.  

Collection, Use and Disclosure

The information we receive in the application process is collected to assist us to determine your suitability for selection for employment with Council.  Information you provide or that we collect from others (such as from a referee, police records, a physical or psychometric assessment) are accessible to our People and Culture team, the hiring manager, selection committee and relevant line management.  We also use information we collect for reporting, quality assurance and continuous improvement to our services and processes.  If you decline to provide information we request, we may not be able to consider your application further.

As part of this process, we may disclose your personal information to:

  • Third party contracted services providers such as IT service providers for IT service, a professional adviser, and our contracted online recruitment portal provider, AURION
  • Government agencies such as law enforcement agencies and any other third party to whom we are required or permitted by law, or in the interest of the safety or wellbeing of the public or our people
  • Referees and testing service providers such as the national police database and pre-employment assessment providers

Security and Retention of Personal Information

We protect personal information we hold from misuse, loss, or unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.  We have implemented physical, electronic and technological security measures to support the security of personal information we hold.  We retain your personal information as required by the Public Records Act or other law, and thereafter we securely delete or destroy personal information.

Access and Correction 

You may access and correct your personal information.  For more information about how to do so, go to the Freedom of Information tab on the Council website.

Privacy Complaints

If you have a complaint that the privacy of your personal information has not been respected according to Council’s Information Privacy Policy or the law, you may report your concern to the Council’s privacy officer, the Governance and Reporting Advisor, Rural City of Wangaratta, Wangaratta Government Centre, 62-68 Ovens Street, Wangaratta or telephone (03) 5722 0888.
