Join Our Parks & Gardens Team – Gardener Role Now Open!

Permanent Full-time | Wangaratta, VIC | $65,884 per annum + super | Make a Difference Outdoors Every Day

The Rural City of Wangaratta is looking for an energetic and skilled Gardener to join our Parks and Gardens team. If you love working outdoors and take pride in creating beautiful spaces for the community, this is your chance to make a real impact.

In this hands-on role, you will help maintain, develop and enhance our region’s much-loved parks, gardens, sportsgrounds, playgrounds, streetscapes and public open spaces. Your days will be filled with meaningful, varied work including planting, turf care, irrigation, pruning, mowing, landscaping, minor repairs and general garden maintenance. Every task you complete contributes to a greener, safer and more vibrant environment for residents and visitors to enjoy.

You will be part of a supportive, down-to-earth team that values quality, teamwork and a strong work ethic. You’ll collaborate with a great crew, but also have the confidence to work independently when needed.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Applying your horticultural knowledge to care for gardens, turf and green spaces.
  • Maintaining and mowing parks, playgrounds and streetscapes year-round.
  • Operating a range of equipment including commercial mowers and irrigation systems.
  • Carrying out landscaping, planting, pruning and minor repairs.
  • Supporting a culture of safety, teamwork and community pride.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • A Certificate III in Horticulture (or similar) and hands-on experience in amenity horticulture.
  • Proven skills in maintaining garden beds, turf areas and irrigation systems.
  • Confidence using machinery such as mowers and motorised garden equipment.
  • A strong understanding of safe work practices and a proactive approach to maintenance.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A current Driver’s Licence (Light Truck endorsement preferred).
