Are you passionate about people, wellbeing, and making workplaces safer, healthier, and more positive? At the Rural City of Wangaratta, we’re not just offering a job — we’re offering a meaningful mission.

Why Us?

Located in Victoria’s spectacular high country, Wangaratta is where community and career collide. With a buzzing city culture surrounded by nature’s best, we offer you the chance to build your future while enjoying a work-life balance most only dream of.

We’re a progressive, people-first council that puts health, wellbeing, and safety at the centre of everything we do — for our teams and the people we serve.

About the Role

We're looking for a passionate Safety and Wellbeing Officer to champion our Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and bring our safety culture to life across all corners of the organisation.

You’ll be a trusted advisor, a supportive collaborator, and a driving force for continuous improvement in all things safety and wellbeing. From policy to people, your impact will be real, felt, and valued.

What You’ll Lead & Support

  • Deliver practical advice and tailored support across safety and wellbeing programs.
  • Drive proactive health and safety initiatives that go beyond the tick-box.
  • Partner with teams to carry out safety audits, risk assessments, and field support.
  • Assist with workers’ compensation and general insurance processes.
  • Lead conversations that matter — from toolbox talks to leadership meetings.
  • Help embed a culture of psychological and physical safety.

What We’re Looking For

  • Certificate IV in OHS (or keen to get it – we’ll support you!)
  • Knowledge of OHS legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to collaborate across a diverse workforce.
  • Tech-savvy with strong reporting and documentation skills.
  • A curious mind, a proactive spirit, and a genuine care for people.

Perks & Benefits

  • A welcoming, inclusive culture where your work is seen and celebrated.
  • Flexibility to balance your professional goals and personal life.
  • Ongoing training, development, and career progression pathways.
  • Staff perks like gym discounts, flu shots, and wellbeing programs.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program for 24/7 wellbeing support.

Applications close: 3pm Monday, 2 June 2025, although the right candidate may be appointed earlier.
