About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Waste and Organics Operator to join our dynamic team. This position will involve assisting with the operation and maintenance of our Organic Processing Facility, ensuring the efficient and environmentally compliant processing of organic waste. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to enhance sustainability efforts and develop expertise in municipal waste management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain recycling equipment, machinery, and plant in a safe and effective manner.
- Monitor and manage the flow of kerbside food and garden organics material through the facility.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment, ensuring high standards of safety and efficiency.
- Identify and resolve operational issues, while proactively minimizing contamination in processing.
- Keep accurate records and reports related to production and safety performance.
- Assist in the review of operational procedures and collaborate with the supervisor to improve processes.
- Participate in various tasks within the waste unit, including transfer stations, landfill operations, and kerbside collection services as required.
- Commit to following health and safety standards and contribute to the overall success of the facility’s operations.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- A full manual vehicle driver’s license (essential).
- A passion for sustainable waste management.
- Experience in operating agricultural equipment or heavy machinery (preferred but not essential).
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and adapt to changing environments.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers and colleagues.
- Physical capacity to perform manual labor and work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and obtain further licenses (e.g., heavy rigid truck license, loader certification).
